YOUNG HUNGARIAN TALENT SIGNED
The 19-year-old national team striker Zsombor Gruber will continue his career at Ferencváros.

After Habib Maiga, Kenan Kodro and Edgar Sevikjan, another player has joined the squad of our defending Hungarian championship men's football team, as the 19-year-old Hungarian youth national team striker Zsombor Gruber, who arrives from Puskás Akadémiemija to Népliget, will continue his career at Ferencváros. Our newly-acquired young striker will join ZTE on loan until the end of the season.

- We are very happy that we have managed to acquire Zsombor Gruber. We believe he is one of the most talented attacking players in Hungarian football. We would like to continue to build him up and create great value for Ferencváros and Hungarian football. The short-term professional goal is to loan him to ZTE after his transfer, so that he can get as much playing time as possible for the rest of the season. We are counting on him from the summer and hope to integrate him into the team as soon as possible - said Ferencvárosi Torna Club's sporting director Tamás Hajnal.

Introduction

Zsombor Gruber was born on 7 September 2004 in Győr, where he was introduced to the basics of football at Győrszentiván, and later played for Győr's junior futsal team. In the 2014/15 season he scored 35 goals in 26 games, and the following season he increased his goal tally to 48.

He attracted attention for his talent and ability, and in 2017 he was signed by Puskás Akadémia's youth team. He scored 34 goals in 30 matches for the U14 team. A year later, he played 26 matches for the U15 team, but was also counted on for 5 matches for the U16 team. He scored 28 times for the former and once for the latter.

Gruber has come through the club's age-group ranks, and in the 2020/21 season he was a regular in the NB III senior team, but he was also on the bench for the first team in the 4-2 loss to Paks in the NB I championship. He spent the following season with Basel in Switzerland, where he played 19 games for the U18 team and made 10 appearances for the U21 team. He scored 9 goals for the U18s and 2 for the U21s.

He returned to Puskás Akadémia after the expiry of his one-year loan contract. In the 8th round of the 2022/23 season, he made his debut in NB I in a 2-1 win against ZTE, and also made an assist in only 19 minutes. He scored his first goal in the top-flight against ZTE, coming on as a substitute in the 60th minute and scoring in the 82nd minute to decide the match.

In the current season, he has made 17 appearances in the NB I, scoring 3 goals (Mezőkövesd, MTK, DVSC) and assisting 1 goal (Mezőkövesd). In the MOL Hungarian Cup, he scored 3 goals in 2 matches, 1 against Mosonmagyaróvár and 2 against FTC (the former won 2-1 against Puskás, while he lost 2-1 against Fradi in extra time).

Zsombor Gruber made his U15 national team debut in January 2019 and was given the chance to play for the U16 team in November 2019. He will play for the U18 team in 2021, the U19 team in 2022 and the U21 team in 2023.
